Morningstar Direct is a web-based global research platform providing performance and holdings analysis of managed investments. It includes open-end and closed-end mutual funds, hedge funds, exchange traded funds, market indices, money market funds, and equities.
The key features of the database are historical fund-flow data and forecasts, historical fund holdings, and fund ratings based on the proprietary Morningstar rating methodology.
The database consists of data on more than 350,000 investment offerings worldwide, going back as far as 1984. Each investment includes the relevant current and historical performance data, portfolio holdings, cash flows, risk measures, and operational information. Portfolio holdings information is updated on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending on the reporting frequency by the firms. Daily and intra-day price data is available for applicable investments.
The Morningstar Excel Add-In allows you to retrieve data from the Morningstar
database and load it into Excel for further calculation. Thousands of widely used data points and investment types are available.
