Description
HSL carries out an extensive survey of the mobility habits of residents in the Helsinki region every few years. Data is collected on all forms of transport, including driving a car, using public transport, cycling and walking.
Data is collected using a survey, where respondents keep a travel diary reporting all the trips they made during the day of the survey selected for them. The survey records e.g., the amount of journeys people in a certain area make each day, where they travel from and to, and what modes of transport they use. The surveys are carried out by randomly selecting a number of residents from the population information system.
