Preqin provides data on venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) deals, and further details on PE funds, like fund performance, benchmarks, flows, investor and manager details. Preqin covers all parts of VC / PE investing: the portfolio firm, the fund, and the investment firm. Over 78,000 portfolio firms are covered.

The earliest fund data included in Preqin is from 1953, however the number of funds included grows to be comparable with other databases starting in year 2000. Preqin can be accessed from two sources: the WRDS platform or the Preqin website. The web-portal at preqin.com offers some additional data that is not contained in the WRDS datasets, such as ESG scores of the funds. Access to the portal requires an external account registration.
